Product information "Adafruit 40-pin FPC to straight 2x20 IDC female connector adapter"
Use this adapter, which acts as an extender for all 40 pins, to give you a Streeeeetch. Simply plug the male side into an optional socket riser header to add to the HAT or Bonnet. Then, paying attention to where pin 1 is, plug your FPC ribbon cable into the 40-pin flex connector.
You can use any 40-pin 0.5mm FPC with 'A-B' connectors. If you want to extend the FPC, a 40-pin extender can be snapped on. Finally, you can use a suitable adapter board to clip your HAT or Bonnet of choice onto the other end.
Note that some HATs, such as the Sense HAT or Bonnets with a narrow connector at the bottom require/benefit from a socket riser/'jack' on the HAT to give the cable more connector body to hold onto. Look at the HAT or accessory you want to extend. If there is no chunky plug at the bottom of the HAT, go for a riser!

Light comes into the dark with Adafruit NeoPixel
One extremely popular product line from the company's broad portfolio is Adafruit NeoPixel. These nifty LED components come in a wide variety of designs and color temperatures. Adafruit Feather Boards: Powerful hardware in a compact format
