You won't be able to take your eyes off the mesmerising patterns created by this Adafruit CharliePlex LED Matrix Display Bonnet. This 16x8 LED display can be placed on any Raspberry Pi computer with a 2x20 connector for a beautiful, bright grid of 128 Charlieplex LEDs. It even comes with an inbuilt Charlieplex driver that is powered via I2C.
What's particularly nice about this board is that the I2C LED driver chip has the ability to PWM each individual LED in a 16x8 grid. This allows you to achieve beautiful LED lighting effects without a lot of pin-switching. Just tell the chip which LED in the grid to light up and at what brightness, and it will do everything for you. You get 8-bit (256 levels) dimming for each individual LED.
The IS31FL3731 is a nice little chip - and it runs happily on 3.3V power. There's enough RAM inside for 8 separate frames of display memory, so you can set up multiple frames of an animation and flip them to display with a single command. As it uses I2C, it only occupies the SDA/SCL pins on your Pi and can share these pins with other I2C devices and sensors.
Comes fully assembled, no soldering required, so you can plug it in straight away. To program it, use the CircuitPython library, which works with Linux computers like the Raspberry Pi. After a Pip installation, run some of the examples to display simple graphics or text.
Works with any Raspberry Pi computer, including the original Pi 1, B+, Pi 2, Pi 3, Pi 4 and Pi Zero.

Light comes into the dark with Adafruit NeoPixel
One extremely popular product line from the company's broad portfolio is Adafruit NeoPixel. These nifty LED components come in a wide variety of designs and color temperatures.
