Description
Product information "Electret microphone amplifier GY-MAX4466"
For amplification, we use Maxim's MAX4466, an operational amplifier designed specifically for this delicate task! The amplifier has excellent noise rejection.
This breakout is best suited for projects such as voice changers, audio recording and audio reactive projects that use FFT. There is a small trimmer on the back that allows you to adjust the gain. You can adjust the gain from 25x to 125x.
This equates to about 200 mVpp (at normal speaking volume at about 6" away), which is good for connecting to a device that expects a "line level" input without clipping, or up to about 1 Vpp, which is ideal for reading from a microcontroller ADC. The output is rail-to-rail, so if it gets loud, the output can be up to 5 Vpp!
It's easy to use: connect GND to ground and VCC to 2.4-5 VDC. For best performance, use the "quietest" supply voltage available (for an Arduino, this would be the 3.3 V supply). The audio waveform is output on the OUT pin.
The output has a DC bias of VCC/2, which means that when it is completely quiet, the voltage is a constant VCC/2 volts (it is DC coupled). If your audio device is AC-coupled, you will need to connect a 100uF capacitor between the output pin and the input of your device. If you are connecting an audio amplifier with differential inputs or decoupling capacitors, the 100uF capacitor is not required.
The output pin is not suitable for operating loudspeakers or devices other than the smallest in-ear headphones. You need an audio amplifier if you want to connect the amplifier directly to speakers. If you make the connection to a microcontroller pin, you do not need an amplifier or a decoupling capacitor - connect the OUT pin directly to the ADC pin of the microcontroller.
