Description
Product information "HyperPixel 4.0 Square - High-resolution display for Raspberry Pi, Touch"
HyperPixel 4.0 Square has all the great features of our standard HyperPixel 4.0 - a razor-sharp, brilliant IPS display, an optional touchscreen and a high-speed DPI interface - just in a squarer form!
This square version of the HyperPixel 4.0 is perfect for customised user interfaces and control panels and is ideal for Pico-8 games. Everything is pre-soldered and ready to go, all you need to do is plug it into your Pi, run our installer and you're good to go!
Note that the images of the displays on this page have not been photoshopped. This is the Raspbian desktop with our HyperPixel Square wallpaper!
Features
- High-speed DPI interface
- 4.0" IPS display (160° viewing angle) (72x72mm)
- 720x720 pixels (~254 PPI)
- 18-bit colour (262,144 colours)
- 60 FPS refresh rate
- Optional capacitive touchscreen
- 40-pin female header included to increase height for Pi B+, 2, 3, 3B+ and 4
- Includes standoffs for secure attachment to your Pi
- Compatible with all Raspberry Pi models with 40-pin header
- Single line installer
The touchscreen is a capacitive touchscreen, which is more sensitive and responsive than a resistive touchscreen and is multi-touch capable!
Please note: When installing HyperPixel 4.0 Square on your Pi, be careful not to press on the screen surface! Hold the board by the edges and wiggle it to connect it to the extended header (or GPIO header). Also, be careful not to pull on the edges of the glass display when removing the HyperPixel.
The HyperPixel works with any 40-pin version of the Pi, including Pi Zero and Pi Zero W. If you're using it with a larger Pi, use the extra 40-pin header that comes with it to bring it up to the required height. If you're using a Pi Zero or Pi Zero W, simply plug it directly onto the GPIO.
The included standoff kit allows you to securely attach the HyperPixel 4.0 Square to your Pi. Simply screw them into the posts on the bottom of the HyperPixel 4.0 Square board and then secure them with screws through the mounting holes of your Pi.
Software
We have put together a one-line installer to configure your Pi for HyperPixel 4.0 Square and enable the touchscreen. Note that you will need another screen, keyboard and mouse to install the software. You can also install remotely via SSH by following our guide on how to set up your Pi without headphones.
Open a terminal and type
curl https://get.pimoroni.com/hyperpixel4 | bashto run the one-line installer and set up your HyperPixel 4.0.

Notes
- Dimensions: Touch: 84x84x9.5 mm, Non-Touch: 75x80x8.9 mm (WxHxD, depth including header and display)
- The HyperPixel 4.0 Square Touch in the main photo here is on its side, and the slightly narrower and slightly wider bezels are usually at the bottom and top respectively, although the difference in size is very small (5.5 mm for the left and right sides, 4.5 for the top and 6.5 mm for the bottom). The non-touch display is also on the side, so the wider bezel is usually at the bottom, but since the display is square, you can use it in any direction!
- HyperPixel basically uses all GPIO pins to communicate with the Pi (including the standard I2C pins), so it's generally not possible to use it with other HATs and devices that connect via GPIO...
- ...but we have provided an alternative I2C interface on the back that allows you to use I2C devices (such as sensor breakouts) simultaneously with HyperPixel. You can find instructions on how to do this in our Hyperpixel 4.0 tutorial (scroll all the way down)

Optimize your Raspberry Pi - with Pimoroni
Pimoni is the expert when it comes to equipping your Raspberry Pi with high-quality add-on modules. The successful company was founded in 2012 in Sheffield, England, and now also has a branch in Essen, Germany. According to the University of Sheffield, Pimoroni is even considered one of the fastest growing manufacturing companies in the UK.
The electronics specialist has the right solution for almost every need around the Raspberry Pi. The product range also includes the Pimoroni Fan Shim, a powerful 30mm CPU fan for the Raspberry Pi, which is one of the top sellers from Pimoroni. The Fan Shim manages a powerful 4,200 RPM and delivers significant added value by optimizing the thermal performance of your Raspberry Pi. Compatibility exists with the Raspberry Pi 4, but also with the 3 B+ and 3 A+ models.
The fan is equipped with RGB LED and a tactile switch, making it wonderfully controllable. The LED serves as an indicator to track the fan status and CPU load/temperature. The tactile switch is also handy: With the help of the included Python library and a daemon, you can program it to switch between temperature-controlled automatic mode and manual mode. Thanks to its "friction-fit" header, the Pimoroni Fan Shim can easily be plugged onto the pins of your mini computer and is ready to go without soldering. In general, the installation is uncomplicated and should not take more than two minutes. While the fan is doing its job, the noise level is very low: The maximum value is only 18.6 dB.
Apart from the Pimoroni Fan Shim, many other top products from Pimoroni are available at Berrybase. The Pibow Coupé 4 is recommended for all owners of a Raspberry Pi 4: The compact case reliably protects your mini computer from external influences like dust or shocks. All ports remain open and thus accessible. The high-quality processed and easy to mount frame for the official 7" Raspberry Pi touchscreen display also fulfills its protective function perfectly. With the Pirate Audio HAT you get a first-class 3W stereo amplifier for your mini computer: Use the module in combination with your Raspberry Pi and your speakers to control the playback of your favorite music and to create powerful sound.
Depending on what you have in mind, you can also use other modules from Pimoroni, such as LED sensors, camera modules or the Pico HAT Hacker.
