Product information "Pixie - 3W modulable Smart LED Pixel"
Each Pixie contains not only the aforementioned 3W LED, but also a microchip PIC microcontroller. You send it the colour you want to appear at a standard 115200 baud (1 byte per colour). You can send a longer string of pixel data and it will "forward" the messages so you can concatenate them like a shift register. You only need to send the data once per colour change. Once set, the microcontroller will do all the PWM processing for you.
You need to send the data at least every 2 seconds (as protection against the bright and hot LEDs getting "stuck", they will eventually timeout if no updates are received). 1-second updates (or faster!) are best.
Because the Pixie consumes so much power, there is a risk that the LED will heat up so much that it will damage itself and/or the microcontroller. This is why Ytai has built in a temperature cut-off. If the PIC detects that the temperature of the Pixie is too high, it switches the LED off until it has dropped back to a reasonable level.
Each Pixie is supplied fully assembled, with large pads for power cables (remember, we're talking about a maximum of 1 amp per Pixie!) and mounting holes on the sides suitable for M2 size screws. We recommend nylon M2 screws to avoid shorting out the on-board components. You will also need thick wires to power each Pixie and a microcontroller that can send 115,200 baud 8N1 data to the Pixie (it won't do anything on its own, you need to send it data to make it light up).

Light comes into the dark with Adafruit NeoPixel
One extremely popular product line from the company's broad portfolio is Adafruit NeoPixel. These nifty LED components come in a wide variety of designs and color temperatures. Adafruit Feather Boards: Powerful hardware in a compact format
With Adafruit Feather, the hardware specialist from the States also has various powerful development boards in its range, which are essentially equivalent to an Arduino in terms of function. Einfache Ansteuerung, sehr hel...
Einfache Ansteuerung, sehr hell. Im beigefügten Bild sieht man eine Glaskugel, die von unten angeleuchtet wird. Die Ansteuerung erfolgt durch einen Arduino uno (Beispielprogramm mit Farbwechsel).
