Description
Product information "PMS5003 Fine dust sensor with cable"
Connect this particulate matter sensor to the Enviro+ for Raspberry Pi, our Particle Sensor Breakout, the Pico Enviro+ or the Enviro+ FeatherWing and build your own air quality monitoring station to contribute to citizen science. Simply plug the cable into the sensor and then into the port on the bottom of the Enviro+, and you're ready to go! The sensor has a small fan that sucks the air through the sensor and past a laser that can detect both the number (and therefore concentration) and size of particles in the ambient air.
Features
- Plantower PMS5003 Particulate matter (PM) sensor(data sheet)
- Detects PM1, PM2.5, PM10 particles
- 15cm Picoblade cable
- UART serial interface
- Python library for Raspberry Pi
- MicroPython library for Raspberry Pi Pico/Pico W
- Dimensions: 50x38x21mm
Software
With our Python library for the PMS5003 sensor, you can read PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 in both standard and environmental units as well as the number of particles in different sizes:
0.3, 0.5, 1.0, 2.5, 5 and 10um.
If you are using this sensor with the Raspberry Pi, you will need to make a few changes to the configuration. Enter
sudo raspi-config in the terminal and then deactivate the login shell under "Interface options" and "Serial" and activate the serial interface. Edit your /boot/config.txt file and add the lines enable_uart=1 and dtoverlay=pi3-miniuart-bt at the end of the file. Our Enviro+ installation script will do all the configuration for you.You can also use this sensor with the Raspberry Pi Pico (and other RP2040 boards) by using our MicroPython library for PMS5003. You can easily install it via Thonny's 'Tools' > 'Manage Packages' (search for 'pms5003-micropython').
Notes
The metal housing of the sensor is covered with a blue protective film, which you can peel off before use.
