This geared motor is a powerful DC motor with a metal gear ratio of 102.08:1, designed for 12 V operation. The gearbox consists mainly of spur gears, but the first stage has helical gearing to reduce noise and increase efficiency. The 16 mm long, 6 mm thick D-shaped output shaft allows easy application in various projects.
Helical gearing describes a design of gears in which the teeth run at an angle to the axis of rotation instead of being straight.
This ensures smoother and quieter meshing, as the teeth mesh gradually.
The advantages are reduced noise development, higher power transmission due to enlarged contact surfaces and a longer service life thanks to less wear.
The disadvantages, however, are the resulting axial forces, which require additional bearings, and higher manufacturing costs.
