In Pimoroni's ranking of "things on our desk that amaze people", the RGB Keypad Base scores highly. It equips a Pico with an eye-catching 4x4 silicone keypad that is fully equipped with addressable APA102 LEDs so that each key can be illuminated in any colour your little unicorn heart desires. The whole thing is mounted on a sturdy base with rubber feet to keep it nice and level, and has a handy labelled landing area for your Pico. We've broken out all the Pico pins so you can easily connect other hardware too.
Connect your Pico project to another computer via USB for a nice macro keyboard or a tidy synth controller. RGB Keypad Base would also work well in any project that would benefit from fancy glowing buttons as inputs - a code-protected door lock perhaps, a disco dance floor for your fingers, or a Simon Says-style game to taunt your friends with.
A Raspberry Pi Pico is not included!

Turn the larger circuit board over and attach the small rubber feet to the paw prints on the underside.
Turn the circuit board over again and slide the silicone keyboard over the buttons so that the tabs fit into the holes. You can then slide the retaining plate over the buttons, ensuring that the button markings match those on the base board . You can mount the retaining plate in either direction, depending on whether you prefer it with or without the pattern !
Insert the M2 screws through the holes in the retaining plate (from above) and screw on the nuts, to hold all the layers together. The screws only need to be tightened enough to keep the layers in place - if you find that the buttons are difficult to press or the silicone layer on the sides is bulging out, you may need to loosen the screws slightly.
The labels on the base will show you which way to connect your Pico - simply match up the USB port with the markings on the board.
The easiest way to start programming our Pico add-ons is to download and copy the MicroPython image to your Pico. It contains all the libraries you need!
