Product information "RGB potentiometer breakout"
This I2C breakout uses the clever Nuvoton microcontroller to help you easily add a digital linear potentiometer to your project. You can directly control the RGB LED inside the potentiometer - meaning it's great for use as an input device that can also give you a colour-coded visual status (like a thermostat or volume control).
Potentiometers have a limited range of movement and are good for rotary controls that benefit from a fixed start and end point - if you'd rather have a potentiometer that can rotate continuously, we also have an RGB encoder breakout!
You can connect it directly to your Pi's GPIO or via a breadboard with the included headers, but it's also compatible with our nifty solderless breakout garden, making it easy to use several different breakouts at once.

Software
The RGB potentiometer breakout uses the same Python library as our IO expander breakout - this example shows you how to read out the potentiometer and control the LED.
Notes
- The default I2C address is 0x0E, but it is possible to change this in the software if you want to use multiple RGB potentiometer breakouts or avoid conflicts with other I2C devices. The new address is stored in flash memory so that it is retained even when the power is switched off.
- This board uses a Nuvoton MCU with our own firmware, but if you are brave and hacky you can substitute your own firmware to change the way this board works and have a super cheap and capable microcontroller (although this is not for the faint hearted!)
