Product information "seeed Grove - Digital PIR motion sensor (12m)"
This Grove Digital PIR sensor is the most affordable sensor within the PIR product family, but offers a fast response and generates a strong signal via the "sig" pin. The sensor can detect movement within a range of 3.2m to 12m and provides a fast and intuitive output in the form of digital high and low signals.
A PIR sensor (Passive Infrared Sensor) is an electronic sensor that measures the infrared radiation of objects within its field of view. These sensors are often used in PIR-based motion detectors. PIR sensors are used in security alarm systems and automatic lighting solutions.
A PIR sensor can detect the infrared radiation emitted by particles. It works with two light-sensitive slits that detect the same amount of infrared radiation when at rest. If a body moves into the sensor's field of view, it first interrupts one of the slits and causes a positive difference in the detected infrared radiation. If the body leaves the field of view, a negative difference is created.
The Grove Digital PIR Sensor is connected via a digital interface and supports platforms such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi. The Grove standard socket enables quick "plug and play", making the sensor suitable for numerous applications within the Grove system.
The sensor can be used for detecting movement, for motion detectors, in security systems and for recognising people. Its compact design and simple digital signal processing make it suitable for a wide range of projects in the fields of security and automation.
