Description
Product information "seeed Grove - Dust Sensor (PPD42NS)"
The Grove - Dust Sensor (PPD42NS) is a module for determining the air quality by measuring the dust concentration. Among other things, the module detects cigarette smoke and fine house dust particles, which are considered asthma triggers. The particle concentration is determined via the so-called "Low Pulse Occupancy Time" (LPO Time), which is counted within a period of time. The LPO time is directly related to the number of dust particles per unit volume.
The sensor provides digital signals with negative logic. Reliable measured values are provided via two PWM outputs for particle diameters above 1 μm. The module distinguishes between particles with diameters over 1 μm and 2.5 μm. The data is particularly suitable for air purification systems. The air is supplied by an integrated heating element, which generates its own circulation. The compact design facilitates installation in various environments. The sensor utilises the Grove system and can be easily integrated into existing projects thanks to its plug-and-play connection.
The sensor measures the concentration of suspended particles in the air. To do this, it records how long a signal remains at a low level within a defined period of time (low pulse occupancy). This time is proportional to the amount of dust in the air. The output is in particle count per litre or per 0.01 cubic foot (pcs/L or pcs/0.01cf). The module is not based on a weight measurement, but on a counting method.
