The Grove - High Precision RTC is a real-time clock with high precision and low power consumption, developed for use in microcontroller-based projects. The module is based on the Philips PCF85063TP CMOS chip, which has been optimised for particularly low power consumption. In operation, the typical power consumption is less than 1.2 μA at an operating voltage of 3.3 V and an ambient temperature of 25 °C.
In contrast to conventional RTC modules with a DS1307 chip, this model offers significantly more precise time measurement. It provides information on the year, month, day, day of the week, hour, minute and second, based on a 32.768 kHz quartz crystal. Data is transmitted via an I²C interface with up to 400 kHz at supply voltages between 1.8 V and 5.5 V. The module supports a programmable clock frequency output with different frequency levels as well as a minute and half-minute interrupt function. In addition, an internal power-on-reset function (POR) is integrated and a programmable offset register allows fine tuning of the frequency.
These functions enable precise time measurement in microcontroller projects such as Arduino or BeagleBone Green and make the module suitable for applications where an accurate clock with low power consumption is required, for example in battery-operated devices or long-term time recording.
