Product information "seeed Grove - Real-Time-Clock / RTC (DS1307)"
The Grove - DS1307 RTC for Arduino is a low-cost, energy-efficient module based on the DS1307 chip and supporting I2C communication. This Real Time Clock module consumes less than 500nA in battery backup mode and lasts for years with a single 3V CR1225 lithium coin cell. It counts seconds, minutes, hours up to the year with leap year compensation (valid until 2100). Automatic power failure detection switches to battery power when required, ensuring reliable timekeeping even if the main power source fails. The module automatically adjusts to months with less than 31 days and supports 24-hour or 12-hour formats with AM/PM display. The "plug and play" capability enables a wide range of applications, ideal for projects that need to run independently of the external power supply, such as data loggers, clocks or alarm systems.
What is an RTC?
An RTC (Real Time Clock) is a clock that accurately records the current time and allows actions to be executed at programmed times. You need an RTC to ensure reliable time measurement for projects such as data loggers, clocks or alarm systems, even without an external power supply. Unlike the built-in timers of most microcontrollers, which reset as soon as the power supply is interrupted, an RTC like the DS1307 retains its settings and runs for years on a single lithium battery. This makes it ideal for more demanding projects where time must continue to run continuously even in the event of a power failure.
