The Grove - TDS sensor is an Arduino-compatible sensor for measuring the TDS value (Total Dissolved Solids) in water. TDS stands for the total dissolved solids, i.e. inorganic and organic substances contained in water. A high TDS value can indicate an increased concentration of dissolved substances and therefore serves as an indicator of the water quality. The sensor provides an analogue output signal in the range from 0 to 2.3 V and supports input voltages of 3.3 V and 5 V, making it compatible with common microcontroller platforms.
A waterproof TDS measuring probe that is resistant to corrosion and is connected via an XHB 2.54 mm 2P interface is used for the measurement. The Grove module itself establishes the connection to the evaluation unit and has a Grove 4-pin socket for simple plug-and-play integration. The areas of application range from aquariums and hydroponic systems to well water monitoring and DIY water filter systems.
TDS describes the concentration of dissolved substances in water, measured in ppm (parts per million). The higher the TDS value, the more substances are present in the water. The sensor is suitable for monitoring water quality in static systems such as aquariums or water tanks, but must not be used in flowing water, highly contaminated water or at temperatures above 70 °C. The product is suitable for monitoring water quality in applications such as aquariums, fountains or hydroponic systems. It determines the proportion of dissolved substances via an analogue voltage measurement. It is installed via a Grove cable without the need for additional soldering. Thanks to the analogue output signal, the sensor can be used directly on standard microcontrollers. The waterproof probe enables uncomplicated handling during the measurement. The sensor detects impurities in the water via the conductivity value of the liquid. An LED signals the power supply. The measured values can be evaluated and visualised via the microcontroller. Compliance with the application limits (no flow, no high temperature, no heavy contamination) is required for precise measurements.
