What are Seeed Grove systems & Elecrow Crowtail?
The Seeed Grove system as well as Elecrow Crowtail provide a modular approach to electronics development with microcontrollers such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi. Both systems rely on pre-assembled plug connections that enable quick and error-free setup – without a breadboard or additional components.
In particular, the Grove system by Seeed Studio is an open source tool set that can be used immediately without extensive preparation. The modules are standardized, offer I2C, UART, analog, and digital interfaces, and are simply connected via Grove cables. This makes the system suitable for both beginners and advanced prototyping projects.
The Base Shield – Central interface for Grove modules
The central element of the Grove system is the Base Shield. It serves as an adapter between the microcontroller and the Grove modules and features numerous analog and digital ports as well as I2C and UART interfaces.
Depending on the project, the Base Shield can be equipped with various modules. Currently, more than 300 modules from Seeed Studio are available that can be connected directly – including demo code and clear documentation for a quick project start.

The Grove ecosystem covers a wide range of applications. These include:
- Sensors: e.g. temperature, humidity, motion, gas, light, sound

Projects with Grove: examples and ideas
A typical application example is building a weather station with Arduino and the Seeed Grove BME280 module. The integrated Bosch sensor precisely measures temperature (-40 to 85 °C), humidity, and air pressure – even altitude measurement is possible. Communication takes place via I2C or SPI, power consumption is low, and suitable datasheets and code examples are available.
For projects involving motor control, the Grove I2C Motor Driver is recommended. It controls either two DC motors or one stepper motor. The H-bridge processes up to 2 A per channel, the supply voltage is 6–15 V, and communication also runs via I2C.
