Product information "Strain gauge load cell, 5kg"
A strain gauge is an electronic sensor for measuring force or strain. They consist of an insulating flexible backing layer with a metallic foil pattern. The resistance of a strain gauge changes when a force is applied and the object deforms together with the film. This change results in a different electrical output. However, these thin foils are very sensitive and easy to bend too much.
In this product, the measuring strip is attached to a piece of strong aluminium with epoxy resin. The metal protects the strain gauge from damage and limits movement. Attach one side to a fixed housing or to the floor to secure it with the mounting holes. Then apply weight to the other side in the direction indicated, either by gravity (down arrow) or by pulling (up arrow). The output resistance changes with the amount of deflection and is measured with a precision ADC or Wheatstone bridge.
Strain gauges are useful for projects where pressure, force, weight and tension need to be measured. Note that this is just the load cell, no ADC or converter is included! Like all load cells, the sensor must be calibrated with known weights after installation!

Light comes into the dark with Adafruit NeoPixel
