The 4-inch E Ink Spectra 6 display offers innovative colour e-paper technology with a resolution of 600 × 400 pixels. It uses the advanced E Ink Spectra 6 (E6) technology, which impresses with high colour contrasts and saturated colours. This display works without a backlight and only requires power during image changes. After switching off, the last displayed image is retained, making it particularly energy-efficient. The display is ideal for applications such as price tags, shelf labels and industrial instruments.

The display is passively reflective, which means that it utilises ambient light for display and provides clear images and text under natural light or lamp light. If an additional light source is required for use in low light conditions, we recommend the EINLICHT Halo from the accessories. The display operates with a greyscale colour depth of 2 and supports SPI communication for integration into control boards such as Raspberry Pi, Jetson Nano, Arduino and STM32. The optional HAT+ standard driver board facilitates compatibility and enables rapid development.

Spectra 6 technology
E Ink Spectra 6 technology works by using electrophoretic motion in microscopic capsules containing electrically charged colour pigments. These pigments, such as black, white, red, yellow, blue and green, are moved to the surface by electric fields, making the desired colour visible. The display consists of a colour capsule layer, transparent electrodes and a reflective background layer. This design makes it possible for content to be displayed permanently without the need for continuous energy.

The e-paper display is used in a variety of projects, including IoT applications, where a resource-saving and energy-efficient solution is required. The paper-like character and viewing angle of up to 170° make the display suitable for mobile devices, industrial applications and other environments where low power consumption and clear visualisation are critical.

Driver board version
The HAT+ standard is an extended version of the original HAT standard for Raspberry Pi. This new specification enables automatic recognition of software and firmware, making it easier to integrate expansion modules. The HAT+ standard is fully compatible with the Raspberry Pi's 40-pin GPIO and supports plug-and-play functionality. An integrated EEPROM chip stores configuration data so that automatic board configuration takes place upon connection. In addition, the standard ensures standardised dimensions, guaranteeing a perfect fit for Raspberry Pi extensions. Power is supplied directly via the 40-pin GPIO, eliminating the need for additional cabling.
